A dense, all-over floral — the kind of print that fills a length of cloth completely and leaves very little ground showing. It takes far more impressions of the block to print than a scattered motif does, and it's the reason this one looks richest in daylight.

Printed by hand in Sanganer

Every metre is printed by hand in Sanganer, just outside Jaipur — a town that has been block-printing cotton for close to four hundred years. A carved wooden block is inked and pressed, lifted and placed again, across the whole length of the fabric.

Because a hand places every block, no two pieces match exactly. Joins where one impression meets the next, small shifts in placement, a motif slightly deeper in colour than its neighbour — these are how you tell handwork from a machine print.

We print with Procion reactive dyes. Reactive dye bonds into the cotton fibre rather than sitting on top of it, so the colour goes right through, the fabric stays soft where it's printed, and the print won't crack, peel or flatten out with washing.

Care

• Wash separately the first time — reactive dyes release a little surface colour on the first wash, then settle
• Cold water, gentle cycle or hand wash
• Do not bleach
• Dry in shade, inside out
• Warm iron
